I couldn’t stop thinking about fair trade and world poverty stuff so in the spring of 2006 I decided to pray about it every day for 45 days.

dream7_01Then one night I had a dream. Some friends and I started talking up the fight against poverty with people and groups wherever we could. Then ideas flowed. Attitudes changed. Projects were launched. We helped people in low-income countries increase their income. We planted stores across Canada that valued people more than profit. We made movies and plays and started coffee houses and action groups. We developed leaders and travelled all over the place and more and more people stepped up and did whatever they could to fight poverty.

Then I woke up.

It was a GREAT dream. Though most of it felt impossible, I wasn't ready to talk myself out of it. So I decided: WHY NOT? Why couldn't it happen? Even though I had no idea how to make the dream happen, I decided to believe that it was possible. Then I decided that I would keep praying and taking whatever action steps I could.

In the fall of 2006, Riptides began as a small seed for a big dream.

In the fall of 2007 we’re in the process of founding a non-profit organization that can make the big dreams happen. This is all new to us so if you can help, let us know!

Lance Wright

Riptides was founded by Lance and Peg Wright. Lance is short and thinks he’s funny. He’s likes to help people find their place in the world. He’s lousy at crafts but likes to create drama and videos. Peggy is wise and sings likes an angel. She homeschools 3 boys (James - 8, Nathan - 4, Andrew - 1). At St. John United Church in Hamilton Peggy is a worship leader and Lance is the Pastoral Associate. Every Monday night Lance and Peggy go out on a date.
